The Soft Bulletin is the ninth studio album by American rock band The Flaming Lips, released by Warner Bros. Records on May 17, 1999, in the United Kingdom, and on June 22, 1999, in the United States. The album was released to widespread acclaim, and was hailed by critics as a departure from their previous guitar-heavy alternative rock sound into a more layered, intricately arranged work. Формируйте собственную коллекцию записей the Flaming Lips, that album is The Soft Bulletin, their 1999 opus - a trippy, epic, ingeniously strange collection compiled of only good songs. It's not musical perfection, but close to it. It opens with a glorious Mellotron wave, which is deliberately just a little off, at the start of Race For The Prize Sacrifice Of The New Scientists. Soft Bulletin is probably the best album the Flaming Lips have ever made - musically rich, lyrically uplifting, and thoroughly enjoyable to listen to. A modern classic. Read more. The Vinyl release of The Soft Bulletin is widely considered the best version of the classic album for two reasons: 1. Though more conventional in concept and scope than Zaireeka, The Soft Bulletin clearly reflects its predecessor's expansive sonic palette. Its multidimensional sound is positively celestial, a shape-shifting pastiche of blissful melodies, heavenly harmonies, and orchestral flourishes but for all its headphone-friendly innovations, the music is still amazingly accessible, never sacrificing popcraft in the name of radical experimentation. Experimentation has been tempered the groups out-there tendencies reined right in for a collection that sings with the same warmth and composure that characterised The Beach Boys Pet Sounds. Its proggy, its rocky but its not prog-rock, really nothing that the average man on the street cant lean an ear towards and be immediately rewarded. Talk about The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin 5.1

I don't care if this is remastered w/ bonus whatever, I find this to be a far inferior version of the album. While it rids itself from doubling up mixes on two of the songs, I believe it chose the inferior mixes of said two. More importantly, it lacks the remixed version of Buggin', which is one of my fav cuts from the original CD. Slow Motion is a kinda dull track, and the album overall is a less impressive listen, due to the (seemingly minor) track order changes occurring early in the album. The only reason to purchase this is the 5.1 mixes, provided you can actually make use of them. Final word: purchase the original CD first, then consider whether you need this release or not.
