Tubular Bells II is the fifteenth studio album by English multi-instrumentalist and composer Mike Oldfield. It was released on 31 August 1992 by WEA and Reprise Records as the successor to his debut album, Tubular Bells 1973. After his contract with Virgin Records ended at the end of 1991, Oldfield signed with Warner and started work on a sequel to Tubular Bells. In 1998, Oldfield released Tubular Bells III. Virgin Records had been pushing Oldfield to create a sequel to Tubular Bells for many years prior to his departure from the label, but Oldfield was hesitant to do so, although his penultimate album for the label, Amarok, was in several respects a conceptual sequel to his 1976 album Ommadawn. Tubular Bells debuted to a storm of approval on May 25th, 1973. Reaching the top 10 in the UK charts, it stayed in the charts for 247 weeks, almost unheard of for a new artist. He also holds the record of knocking himself off the top spot, when Tubular Bells reached number one, pushing his second effort Hergest Ridge down.
