Stonebone is an album by jazz trombonists Kai Winding and J. Johnson featuring performances recorded in 1969 and released by CTI only in Japan. Ginell awarded the album 4 stars and stated It is a prototype of the CTI formula of the '70s, allowing first-class jazz musicians to groove at length with minimal shaping on the production end to give these tracks drama. Dontcha Hear Me Callin' to Ya Rudy Stevenson. J & K: Stonebone. mistermister668. Oddly, the third of the J&K A&M projects was released only in Japan, though it was given a U. catalogue number SP 3027, and one can only speculate as to why - the diminishing American audience for jazz in 1969, producer Creed Taylor's impending move to start his own label. But the fact is that this is the best album of the three - and the one closest in touch with the crucial improvisatory impulse of jazz. When I asked Creed about the album months ago, he couldn't recall recording it or sending the tapes off to Japan, despite his name and large signature being stamped on the cover as producer. J&KStonebone may have been only halfway finished when Creed left to set up CTI outside of A&M. J & K: Stonebone 1969. Kaufen Sie Platten und CDs und vervollständigen 1967, Creed Taylor launched CTI Records as a subsidiary of the A&M label. Creed had just left Verve, where he headed the jazz label and pioneered new concepts in young-adult jazz, including covers with abstract color photography and jazz interpretations of pop-rock and pop-soul radio hits. In New York, Creed had complete autonomy over CTI. Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss were busy in Los Angeles, and they envisioned CTI as a hip, easy-jazz imprint. In 1969, Creed struck a deal with A&M to leave the label and take CTI with him. At the time, A&M was pushing into rock and expanding its. This album was scheduled for American release as A&M SP-3027, but it was never released outside of Japan. Never reissued on CD not even in Asia.Probably the rarest albums in the CTI history. The last LP of Creed Taylor's association with the A&M label.
measet Even more rare was the Tamba Trio album "California Soul," long rumored but never released. For its ~50th anniversary, it has gotten a limited release on vinyl, hitting the streets last week Friday. I can't say musically it is any great work (there had to be a reason for it being shelved), as I've followed Tamba Trio and Luiz Eça for some time now and this one totally lacks that group's energy. But I figure if someone took the pains to reissue that one, I'm betting one of these years someone will dust off the masters to "Stonebone" (provided Universal didn't roast them in their fire) and reissue it also.
Yes I own this LP, I just took a snapshot of it.Unfortunately is very hard to find even in Japan and what is more with obi strip and insert. Nobody knows for sure why it wasn't issued in the US. I'm very lucky, one of my Japanese friend dug it me this gem last year in Kanagawa. I saw it in the past listed on ebay for thousands of bucks but I cannot imagine that is went for such ridiculous price. I know one copy which was sold there at $700.
i picked up a copy of K.* & J.J.* - Israel today which led me to do some reading before i came across this. couldnt believe it hadn't been added to the database already - found a copy on ebay selling from japan for $600! are you actually in possession of a copy of this gem?
