The song was released on their 1972 self-titled debut album Stealers Wheel. The single sold over one million copies, climbing up to eventually number 6 in the US in 1973 and number 8 on the UK pop charts. Due to the similar style of the vocals, many people are misled to believe that the song was done by Bob Dylan. Also known simply as Stuck In The Middle, this Stealers Wheel classic was co-written by the group's guitarist Gerry Rafferty and keyboard player Joe Egan.
